Where were you January 20th, 2009 when the world changed?
I know where I was. My body sat propped in a tattered chair on Cleveland's west side. My heart was in Washington DC where a people were united, by the passing of a torch for the realizatioin of a dream, of a future that is the present. My mind was in the sky. Not in the clouds but in the sky which is now the limit for all people. Where were you when the world changed?
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Cyber-Space Sit Down with Donny Goines
PROPH THE PROBLEM: First off, thank you for taking the time to chill for CYBER-SPACE SIT DOWN. Being an emcee myself I'm always curious as to what makes other emcees tick, how they think, and how they got started. I'd been rhyming for as long as I remember but didn't think of pursuing it until I heard "2nd Round Knock Out" by Canibus in 1998. How long have you been rhyming, and what made you decide to turn hip hop into a career?
DONNY GOINES: Thanks for the love fam. I've been rhyming for along time, since I was 17 actually but I never took it serious until I turned 25. I just got hit with an undeniable feeling of inspiration and it compelled me to pursue this. In the back of my mind I always wanted to make music but didn't really think it was possible, now that thought is a thing of the past.
PTP: For the people that aren't familiar yet, your sound is real, raw, yet still very polished. Who in hip hop inspired you early on and how do you compare yourself to them?
DG: I was always inspired by the artists from the Mid 90's. B.I.G, Pac, Nas, Jay Z, Mobb Deep, etc. but back in those days it was just as a fan. Now as a artist myself I try to create that feeling I had within others. I am a very polished artist in the sense of recording because I'm a studio rat but overall I have a long way to go before I master my craft.
PTP: Who do your fans now compare you too and why?
DG: Funny enough people always say I remind of the era I just mentioned. They say I reminded them of the days when Hip Hop was Hip Hop. I guess I can understand where that comes from because whether I do it on purpose or not I am heavily influenced by that era.
PTP: After releasing several acclaimed mixtapes such as "Off The Books" with DJ BEDTYME and "About the Author" you've released a solid album "Minute After Midnight." Was the process of creating an album different from the process of creating a mixtape? Explain how.
DG: This process really was a very thought out and calculated process compared to my previous projects. Not to say that I didn't take them serious or anything like that but "Off the Books" took me about 12 hours to finish, "About the Author" was about 15 hours so on and so forth to where as my album took months to finish and complete. My thinking process was completely different and I really tried to complete a solid product all around the board. I stand by my album %100 and the best is yet to come.
PTP: You've got quite a buzz right now. How did you go about establishing and mainting that buzz. How vital has the web been to your success as an independant artist?
DG: I did it by doing things such as this. Taking every interview, throwing songs out there, working hard and staying determined. It surely was no overnight thing. I worked VERY hard to get where I'm at and it was no easy task. The Internet has been the biggest aid to my career thus far when it comes to promotion and such. I love the blogs and websites and without them you would have no idea who I am.
PTP: Now that the album has been released, what's next for Donny Goines in 2009?
DG: I have many things planned but I just take things one day at a time and see what happens. I think this year is gonna be a great one and I am very optimistic and hopeful. In the meantime though, the hustle never stops.
PTP: Thank you for taking the time to chill at CYBER-SPACE SIT DOWN. Its been fun but the grind continues so we gotta keep it moving. Any final comments?
DG: Much love and I thank you for all the support. Please support "Minute After Midnight" and pick up a copy at any popular online retailer. iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, etc. Much love and thank you for all the support. I love ya'll.

Charlie Baltimore speaks on Lil Kim in "Notorious"
Biggie has never steered wrong with the ladies. From Lil' Kim, to Faith Evans, and Charli Baltimore, there was a reason why ladies called him Big Poppa. In a recent interview with Yo!Raps.com former flame, Charli Baltimore explains how Lil Kim was simply more of a fling, than a girlfriend."Lil' Kim wasn't Biggie's Girl. They just fucked," she said. "Kim goes out of her way to say she was B.I.G.'s girl. No, Kim wasn't his girl! Straight up, she wasn't. She benefited from the situation because she became Lil' Kim. She has a career and she's grateful to a nigga for helping her in that aspect, but she was never his girl."Not too long ago, Lil Kim voiced her displeasure with the upcoming film "Notorious" by saying she wasn't portrayed accurately. This resulted in Faith Evans responding back, and now leading to the entry of Ms. Baltimore. She further reiterated that she didn't understand why Kim was parading around claiming she was Biggie's girl, when in reality she wasn't. "If you're running around constantly saying it, you would think a person with half a brain would say,'That don't sound right!'" she added. "That's like Faith constantly walking around saying 'Oh! I was B.I.G.'s wife!' Like, we know you were his wife. You don't have to say it 100,000 times. So, I don't get into that."She even goes on to say that the only person who Biggie really loved was Faith."Even though B.I.G. and [Faith] weren't together, you know, he loved her. And that's real talk. I mean he might have loved her, but that shit didn't work out. I never disrespected her to the level of saying anything out of pocket. Kim, on the other hand, I don't know what the hell she thought or maybe she's delusional as to what B.I.G. and her had going on. I don't know. I think the people who should discuss it should be his mother, his wife or maybe his best friends. So other than that, I don't feel as though nobody should be running around here claiming all this shit on B.I.G. because B.I.G. didn't really like none of them like that! So, that's just my opinion [laughs]."CB claimed while dating Biggie, Kim and the notorious one did have sexual relations, but nothing deeper. She also explained Kim's actions at Big's funeral."I remember being at the funeral and Lil' Kim fell out on the floor and I was just like, 'Yo! What the fuck!' Like, Faith was up there singing and she was very composed and very respectful. And here goes Lil' Kim on the floor and she starts rolling around on the floor...I remember this girl Lil' Kim walked up and damn near jumped in the casket!"
Sonic had never been so dope... Enter in Charles Hamilton
I finally found a second to listen to some NEW music a couple of days ago and decided i would start with XXL's new guys... the freshman class that will usher in a new golden era of hiphop. Other than Wale, Kid Cudi, and Cory Gunz whom i'd already been familiar with I listened to Asher Roth , and Charles Hamilton. A Roth is good, very good. Good character however in my opinion isnt lyrically as talented as the Charles Hamilton. What I listened to of Charles Hamilton's music was refreshingly clever, and purely dope. The title of this entry should make it clear who my pick is but whom do you think will make a bigger impact in 2009, Roth or Hamilton?
If your gonna start something you wanna start strong right? RIGHT! With the new year beginning, i figured a nice reintroduction of PROPH THE PROBLEM to the world was neccassary. What better Gotta problem with it?! reference the welcome note to see what i have to say. Enjoy
